Make your space travel dreams come true with NASA's new simulation of a trip through the Veil Nebula.

The odds of achieving space travel beyond the solar system in the foreseeable future are looking pretty slim, but thanks to NASA's Visualization Team, you can take an intergalactic lunch break any time. This animation was constructed using composites of images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Today's destination is the Veil Nebula, a cloud of debris left over from one of the best-known supernovas. The star, located about 2,100 light-years away in the Cygnus constellation, was once 20 times as massive as our sun — that is, until it exploded about 8,000 years ago. All that's left are these wisps of gas, which emitted light as they encountered cooler, denser interstellar gas. This view provides only a small glimpse of the colossal nebula.
