Tesla has demonstrated that just one word can make a big difference.

Last week, their mission statement read:

Tesla's old mission statement

Now, it’s been updated:

About Tesla | Tesla's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

By simply switching out the word “transport” for “energy,” Tesla is showing the public that its mission to change the world doesn’t stop at transportation — energy is just as important. In fact, the two go hand-in-hand.

The company also recently announced its plans to acquire the solar power company, SolarCity, owned by Musk’s cousin. “The opportunity here is to have a highly innovative sustainable energy company that answers the whole energy question from power generation and storage to transport,” Musk told reporters after the announcement, according to Tech Insider.

Plus, about a week ago, Musk tweeted:

The “Top Secret Tesla Masterplan” has yet to be published, but based on Tesla’s recent actions, it’s likely that the company’s original master plan will still be a fundamental part of the new one. The original plan can be seen here, and it revolved largely around environmental responsibility.

In the years to come, we can expect to see Tesla link its two biggest markets — solar energy supply and energy demand through transportation. Turning Tesla into a solar energy company is just one of the many notches on Elon Musk’s ambitious to-do list. It’s safe to say the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has a busy few years ahead of him.
