They have to be prepared for everything!

Have you ever thought to yourself: “Boy, I could really use a spray that smells like farts right about now?” My guess would be probably not. Even Andrew Masters and Allen Wittman who developed the product called Liquid Ass didn’t expect it to go further than the gag product market. But then, Stew Segal who works in the medical side of the armed forces came along.

He describes his company as “one that replicates the environment of combat.” Emergency medics need to be prepared when going into the field, and this fart spray now plays a part in their training.

Liquid Ass’ website describes their product as a “power–packed, super–concentrated liquid” that, once unleashed, “begins to evaporate filling the air with a genuine, foul butt–crack smell with hints of dead animal and fresh poo.” I can’t really think of anything more revolting. In fact, in a promotional video, Segal said he thought it could “gag a maggot.”

Dave Matney also relies on Liquid Ass in his work day. Matney conducts simulated medical crises for doctors and nurses in training. In a Vice article, Matney explains how fake fluids are made for medical training:

“For fake poo, I mix chocolate pudding, applesauce, canned corn, and peanuts. Then I spray the mix with a couple squirts of Liquid Ass spray, stir it up, and spoon it over any of those fake dog turds you can get at any novelty store. For fake vomit, I mix lemon juice and parmesan cheese together for smell, then I add corn starch for consistency. It smells horrible, but it would probably taste great if you put it on chicken.”

It sounds like having a sense of humor just has to be part of the job description. But, according to the product’s website, Liquid Ass’s smell can last for 1 to 3 hours. So don’t use it unless you really need to — or want to I guess!

Watch the video below to hear more about how the spray began. It’s a really good thing that smells can’t be transferred through YouTube!
