Plus, you can finally delete those useless built-in apps.

At yesterday’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2016, Apple announced a number of new features to expect with its iOS 10 software. The company says that the updated operating system will affect most iPhone users by the end of this year.

For starters, users will be able to wake their iPhone screens up simply by lifting their devices.

These are some of the other features that will be gracing our Apple smartphones:

Lockscreens

The iOS 10 system will enable users to swipe left anywhere on the lockscreen to access their cameras.

Further, users will be able to respond to emails, access full iMessage conversations, and add calendar events to their phones without having to unlock the device.

iMessage

iOS 10 is set to transform the emoji game — keywords in your messages will light up as potential emojis. For example, you can see in the GIF below that words like “basketball,” “pizza,” and “tacos” can easily be turned into emojis.

You can also expect Facebook-style reactions to come to iMessage, as well as handwritten messages, stickers, and full-screen effects for special occasions like New Years.

The ability to communicate with third-party apps will also be revolutionized with the software update — interactions will be able to take place right within the messaging window. Food, for instance, could be purchased directly in an iMessage conversation.

Additionally, you’ll be able to turn on read receipts for individual people.

Siri

Siri continues to evolve, and she’ll be taking on some new responsibilities with the iOS 10 update. Just like iMessage, Siri will also be able to communicate with third-party apps. Sending payments or calling an Uber or Lyft will be easier than ever — just command Siri to take care of it.

Siri will also use machine learning, a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that enables computers to learn without being explicitly programmed, to give well-informed suggestions during conversations. For example, if someone texts you asking where you are, Siri can suggest to send them your location, or if you begin typing “Brad’s number is,” Siri can pop up with number suggestions to tap based on your contacts.

Phone

A number of new-and-improved features will be coming to the phone app. In iOS 10, you’ll be able to read a transcription of a voicemail in addition to hearing the playback audio. When it comes to numbers you don’t recognize, Apple will let you know when they’re likely to be spam.

Additionally, calls from third-party apps, like Whatsapp, will look like the regular phone app when receiving a call.

Photos

Facial recognition technology will be incorporated in the default Photos app in the new software. Using artificial intelligence, the device will also be able to lump photos together if they’re assumed to be part of the same “Memory.” You’ll also be able to edit Live Photos.

Finally, Apple will be giving users the opportunity to delete some of their built-in apps — a full list can be seen here.
