Researchers have demonstrated for the first time how an asteroid or comet could have caused a mega crater on Mars' largest moon Phobos -- which resembles the Death Star from the film "Star Wars" -- without completely destroying the satellite.
The plasma balls, twice as massive as the planet Mars, are zooming so fast through space that it would take only 30 minutes for them to travel from Earth to the moon.
The discovery marks the first important step for observational studies of extragalactic hot molecular cores and challenges the hidden chemical diversity of our universe.
"It's a big challenge to come up with a good explanation for a star doing three different things that have never been seen before, but these observations will provide an important clue to solving the mystery of KIC 8462852."
Using data from NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and other facilities, an international team of scientists has found the first gamma-ray binary in another galaxy and the most luminous one ever seen.
